Schools / Universities Sydney – Western Sydney University

Western Sydney University has 6 campuses located throughout the western Sydney area. The university is the former University of Western Sydney, renamed in 2015 as part of a rebranding campaign.

The University of Western Sydney itself was created from the amalgamation of the Hawkesbury Agricultural College and the Nepean College of Advanced Education, with the subsequent addition of the Macarthur Institute of Higher Education in 1989.

Macquarie University was established in 1967 and is located in North Ryde. It is a public research university with five faculties, a private not-for-profit teaching hospital Macquarie University Hospital, the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, and Macquarie University Research Park.

According to some sources, the University of Technology Sydney has its origins in the Sydney Mechanics' School of Arts, a mechanic’s institute that was established in 1833. However, its formal founding is generally acknowledged as being in the 1870’s as the Workingman's College with its current form being officially established in 1988.

UTS is also a public research university. Its main campus is located in Ultimo and there are 4 others across Sydney. It has nine faculties and 25 schools offering a diverse range of subjects and specialities and is considered one of the leading universities in Australia and internationally.
