History of Whiteman Park
The famous History of Whiteman Park was originally a private property and owned by the late Mr. Lew Whiteman (1903–1994). He purchased the property in 1939 for the purpose of raising his cattle. And in 1960, he decided to start developing the property and build the Mussel pool which is a very popular picnic spot today.
In between 1977 to 1990, the state government of Western Australia started purchasing these properties from numerous owners and that also included Mr. Whiteman. Then later on, a decision came out from the state government to grant back these properties to the corresponding locals with perpetual terms. Provided these properties are intended for community use only.
In 1986, the government officially named the park under Mr. Whiteman, since he pioneered developing the open space before. And also, Whiteman Park formally opened its gates to everyone.
In 1999 and 2001, the west area of Beechboro Rd. and along Bennett Brook Railway which is south to the Swan River became under the management of Whiteman Park.
