History of Coochiemudlo Island

He discovered the Coochiemudlo Island on 19th of July in search of major navigable rivers. He is not only famous for circumnavigating the entire continent but also the first one who proposed to name the country Australia.

That is why every year, Coochiemudlo Island celebrates an annual festival called Flinders Day to commemorate its discovery. The locals are celebrating by making a re-enactment of his arrival on the Sunday nearest to July 19. The celebration takes place in the Coochie markets.
